28-Apr-2011 - Global Times |
The 2011 International Horticultural Exposition (IHE) opened in the Chinese city of Xi'an, Shaanxi Province on Thursday.
The 178-day event, which kicks off on April 28 and stretches until October 22, is another international event held in the Chinese mainland, following the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008, Shanghai World Exposition and GuangZhou Asian Games in 2010.
IHE is expected to attract 12 million visitors, from home and abroad.
The main expo area covers 418 hectares, including 188 hectares of plain water, on Guangyun Lake.
Four landmark buildings, the Chang'an Tower, Greenhouse, Theme Pavilion and the Guangyun Entrance serve as add-on beautifiers for the expo.
Parks at the venue include the Chang'an Park, Creativity Park, Five-Continent Park, Sci-tech Park, and Experience Park.
Flower gardens are the Chang'an Flower Valley, Colorful Plants from the Qinling Mountains, Flowers along the Silk Road, Overseas Collections, and Flower Rainbow over the Ba River. |
