It is 25 kilometers from the west of Lianyungang. In 1984, it was approved as a transportation airport by the Central Military Commission and the State Council. On March 26, 1985, it opened the first civilian flight.
The Terminal District was completed on December 1989. On September 1993, after the second phase expansion of the airport, it reached the national standard 4D. The airfield is flat and the headroom is good. The airport has a runway of 2500 meters in length, 50 meters in width. There is a subway runway of 2,500 meters in length, 23 meters in width. The apron covers an area of 20,400 square meters. The airport is equipped with advanced instrument landing system and omni-directional beacon device, with advanced lighting system of aids to navigation, air traffic control secondary radar and weather radar, which can ensure the safety of aircraft taking off and landing. The 3,500-square-meter terminal allows for 300 passengers per hour. There are service facilities for boarding, dining, shopping, resting and communication services. Baita Airport Lianyungang port has been opened to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenyang, Dalian, Wenzhou, Chengdu route. In 1996, 1,084,310,000 passengers and 1173 tons of cargo went through the airport, which is respectively 12 times and 15 times than it in 1985 .In 1993, after the expansion of the airport, the passengers and cargo traffic increased rapidly, at the rate of 58.4%, 33.6% respectively.
