It is located 29km east of the city of Xining and the airport began operation on May 25th 1999. Although the largest airport in the province of Qinghai, Caojiabao airport is still a relatively minimal airport. Recent additions included the construction of a new terminal as well as the expansion of the current terminal.
Caojiabao Airport is the second largest airport which is also an important air traffic hub in Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. There are dozens of routes available to Beijing, Shanghai, Xi'an, Taiyuan, Lanzhou and other medium-sized cities. such as dozens of flights.
Caojiabao Airport is located in Gaozhan Village, Huzhu county, 2178 meters above sea level, 28 kilometers away from Xining downtown, which is a 4D-class airport. It allows the landing of B-757 aircraft. It completed its reconstruction on November, 2005. The terminal covers an area of 10,727 square meters. It is designed with the aim to meet the demand of 860,000 passengers, 518 passengers on peak-hour, 9500 tons of cargo.
