Mt Putuo, the Buddhist Kingdom on the sea,in one of the four famous Buddhust mountains in China.It is actually a small island of the zhoushan Archipelago, located in the lotus Sea about 100 nautical miles east of the Hangzhou Bay. The waters around the Zhoushan Achipelago is among the world's best-known fishing grouds. Every year when the fishing season sets in, the sea around Putuo will bristle with masts of fishing vessls. The lighthouse on the nearby Luojia Hill is an important international navigation mark and has long been indicated in the world nautical chart as such. The famous excursion centers on Putuo include strange caves,vast seas, charming scenery, ancient temples and palaces of jade, such as the Amakening of Spring at Plum Bay, the Magnificent Cloudy Peak, the Echoes in the Twin Caves and the Moonlit Night by the lotus Pond. Putuo Monastery is actually a large mass of majestic structures. Apart form three major monasteries, there are over twenty Buddhist temples and convents. The island alsoabounds in fantastic caves and curious stones, which present an infinite variety of shapes.Many of these stones and rocks are named after the things that they resemble.One, for instance, is shaped like two tortoises listening to lectures on dharma and has derived its name from this similarity. All around the island are stretches of beautiful beaches sparkling in the sun. And the evening tide at Qianbu Beach will give out light as an illuminant body. On Mt Putuo it is warm in winter and cool in summer. The trees remain green all through the year. The island has become an attraction not only to devout believers in Buddhism but also to tourists both Chinese and foreign.
