The Golden Dragon Hotel is a 17-story building with 290 elegant, comfortable and fully furnished standard rooms, 29 deluxe suites, 40 executive suites, 40 no-smoking rooms and a Presidential Suite. Each room is equipped with individually controlled air-conditioner, satellite TV programs ( CNN, NHK, THAI STAR PROGRAM ), audio channel, refrigerator as well as direct domestic and international telephone. The deluxe and the presidential suites are provided with a private facsimile.

Golden Dragon Hotel is a bussiness hotel. As typical tourists (not dressed properly?) employees didn't want to help advising about tourist-sites, restaurants and didn't want to call a taxi. Assistant manager pointed at the congierge and the congierge pointed at the desk staff. At last they promised transport to the airport, confirmed it 2 times and it came out they did not have arranged is for us. So we ourselves had to find 2 taxi's to bring us very late to the airport. The attractive looking swimming pool, printed on all brochures, is part of a poor garden and does not contain any water!!

I thought this was one of the best hotels I have stayed in over 40 years of international travel. Staff were pleasant, competent and flexible. Even though the building is over 23 years old, it has been renovated and maintained exceptionally well. The rooms were clean, well appointed, very comfortable. Unusually for Chinese hotels, the bathroom was spotless. The bar service in the lobby was prompt and friendly and the breakfast was served fully stocked right up until the deadline of 10:00am ... very unusual. The only small criticism I have is the delay while checking out. Waiting while someone from Housekeeping checks the room with a taxi meter running outside seems unnecessary. I suspect this was an inexperienced staff member. We will definitely be staying there in future. Our visits to Kunming are generally 2 days per month.
