Xigaze: Xigaze is a famous cultural city with a history of more than 500 yell is. It has
been a place in which Bainqen Erdini Lamas of various historical stages were
authenticated. Later it has become a political and religious center in rear Tibet. To its
south stands the world-known Ml. Qomolangma, the highest in the world.
Mt.Qomolangma: Located in bordering areas with
Nepal in Tingri County, it is 8,848. 13
meters high, the tallest mountain in the
world. In the area of 5,000 square kilo-
meters around the mountain£¬there are
four peaks being more than 8,000 meters
high and 38 peaks being more than 7,000
meters high.
Palkor Monastery: Located at the western end of the
Changge Range in Gyangze County, it
was built in 1414. Its 17 Dratsang
(colleges) belong to three sects of Sagya.
Kadatn and Gelug and gather all religious sects. Its main building is the hall
of Coqen.
Sakya Monastery: Being 160 kilometers west of Xigaze, the Sakya Monastery is com- Posed of Southern and Northern Monasteries. The monastery preserves great numbers of books such its the "Bakgyur, " "Bstanggyur" Pattra-leaf Scripture and other Tibetan classics on astronomy, geography, history, medicines and literature.
Trashilhunpo Monastery: At (lie toot of the Nyima Mountain on the outskirts of Xigaze, the monastery was built in 1447 under the supervision of the Mist Dalai Laina Gcdun Zhuiba, one of the disciples of Zonggaba. It has be- come the place of the reincarnation of the Bainqen Lamas. The monastery houses the 22.4-Ineler-high gilded bronze statue of Qiangba Buddha, (lie tallest of its kind in the world. The image of the Buddha is kind and generous, and is vivid.
Lhabu Gyikang Mountain: A boundary mountain range of Nyalam and Tingri countries, there are three peaks of an elevation of more than 70 meters from the east to the west and the highest is 7,367 meters above sea level. Around these peaks are icy mountain slopes and forests of icy pagoda. The wonderful scene is that there are many glacier lakes around them, with the bigger one - the Lake Colangima on the northern Slope.
