Guangzhou Visitors can enjoy a New Breathtaking Attraction

Impressive Ferris wheel (horizontal) at 487 m altitude on the Canton Tower, the tallest structure in China


16 crystal balls for a scenic ride on the Tower of Canton. Just along the edge of the roof, at a height of 487 meters, was built a track elliptical, along which 16 vehicles of crystal, slowly running all the way around, let enjoy a breathtaking view over the city of Guangzhou. This is a wonder unique in the world, even difficult to define, perhaps we could describe it as a sort of horizontal Ferris Wheel. These small vehicles, measuring 3.2 meters in diameter, contain 4 to 6 people each. To do the entire tour takes 20 to 40 minutes. The wheel is open from 17:00 to 22:00 every day, the price is 130 yuan per person (only for wheel, the admission fee to Canton Tower is not included). This is just one of many attractions contained in the new Canton Tower, a huge and futuristic building that promises to become one of the main attractions of Guangzhou.


The New Canton Tower in its highest point measures over 600 meters

The Canton Tower for about one year held the title of tallest completed tower in the world, filling the place of the CN Tower in Canada. But during 2011 year has been surpassed by the Tokyo Sky Tree. Today it is still the tallest structure in China. The Canton Tower was built between 2005 and 2011. It was open to the public from September 29, 2010, in conjunction with 2010 Asian Games, but some parts of the building had not yet been completed. The tower has become fully operational, with all its attractions, during 2011. The project was relized from IBA, Information Based Architecture. "our intent - says Mark Hemel, that make project with his partner Barbara Kuit - was to create a free-form tower with its own identity, able to represent Guangzhou as a dynamic and stimulant city."


Not to be confused with former Guangzhou TV Tower

The new Canton Tower must not to be confused with former Guangzhou TV Tower (217 m high lattice telecommunication tower erected in 1991). Now we are telling about the new Canton Tower (618 m high), which replaced the old tower in the telecommunications functions, which is becoming one of the main attractions and an important landmark for the city of Guangzhou.


Multiple points of observation

Inside the tower were created outdoor gardens with various points of observation: at the height of 180 meters it is an open area where visitors can physically climb the tower. And on top, height of 450 meters, there is a large terraced open-air platform, with a particular setting, all dedicated to the observation. Within the tower there are the lifts of two types, slow-speed panoramic and high-speed double-decker.


Within the Canton Tower

Inside the tower, in addition to broadcast television studies, there are 4D cinema, games room, restaurants, cafes, outdoor gardens, several tea rooms. There is also a scale open-air, named 'Skywalk', which begins at a height of 170 meters and ends nearly 200 meters higher. Above the upper staircase of the tower begins housing and various technical functions, among which there are also two rotating restaurant.


The Canton Tower is entirely illuminated, with beautiful lighting effects

The elegant and slender shape of Canton Tower is emphasized during the night by a special lighting system. With the onset of dusk the tower lights up and emits beautiful effects of colours, supported by LED technology. Each little area of the lighting system is individually adjustable and allow infinite number of variables in the combinations of colors along the entire surface of the tower. It should be remark that the lighting system made with this technology has a low energy consumption and consumes only 16% of the limit established.
