Located at the southern part of Tiananmen Square and built in 1958. The front faces Tiananmen Gate Tower and an inscription of Chairman Mao Zedong's handwriting that reads "The People's Heroes are Immortal" is engraved on a piece of stone of 60 tons and 14.7 meters.
The Monument rising to a height of 37.4 meters from the floor to the top is the largest monument in China. Eight white marble bas-reliefs are inlaid in four faces of the plinth to describe the historic events of Burning Opium, Jintian Uprising, Wuchang Uprising, May Fourth Movement, May 30th Massacre, Nanchang Uprising, Guerilla War against Japanese, and Crossing Yangtze River.
Total length of the reliefs is 40.68 meters and 170 figures are engraved to briefly show the earthshaking revolutions for 100 or more years.
