In July 13, 2001, Beijing obtained the qualification to host the 2008 Olympic Games. To undertake the sports events of 2008
Olympic Games, it is planned to use 37 stadiums, including 32 in Beijing and 5 in other cities. The layout is proposed to be "one main center plus three zones.'" Olympic Green" is "the main center" for hosting the Olympics comprising 13 stadiums:
western community has 9 stadiums among which the Wukesong Culture and Sports Center will be set up. After the games, they will become activity center for common people in the south west part of Beijing. In the university community 4 stadiums including the Capital Indoor Stadium will be determined. After the games, they will become place holding sports activities for universities and the local community Moreover, two stadiums including the Beijing Countryside Horse Racetrack Venue will be arranged in the "northern scenery tourism zone" so that they could be used to develop the suburb tourism. Additively, 4 gymnasia including the labor gymnasia will be reformed and expanded in other places so as to create favorable conditions for people nearby to promote the cultural and sports activities
Olympic Green is located in the northen side of the municipal central
axis covering a total area of 1135 hectare, including a forest park of
680 hectare and an Olypic centra zon of 405 hectare. Olympic Green
benefits from the Asian games stadiums and a plenty of relevant
facilities, and has convenient transportation network. Bsides, with
dense population around, it enjoys good municipal infrastructure and
owns complete commercial and cultural service facilities. The planning
of Olympic Green will focus on the municipal long-term development and
meet the requirements of common people for material culture,
therefore, is will ve formed as a public activity center encircled by
the green belt with wide open space and pleasant.
