Hangzhou is known as the hometown of silk. The China National Silk Museum
established in Hangzhou, is the largest of its kind in China.
Located at the foot of the Jade Emporer Hill just beside the West Lake, and wattle total construction area of 7, 000 sq. m. , the museum has altogether eight exhibitior
halls. On display are the silk-related history, culture. documents, folk customs
mulberry-planting and cocoon-breading, various kinds of mulberry trees and cocoons, weaving machines as well as the whole process of silk production from
refining, dyeing, printing to the final cleaning-up. The modem high-quality silo
products and arts and crafts are also on display.

Built in 970 A. D. the Pagoda of Six
Harmonies, a wood-and-brick structure, is a
national cultural importance
Located on the Yulun Hill by the
Qiantang River, the pagoda was said to
have been built to press down the evil of
the river tidal bore. Renovations at
different periods, have kept the wood
structure's original octagonal shape. is
59. 89 m. high, has thirteen eaves but only
seven stories inside, with spiral staircase
leading to the top. Perched on each floor
visitors may have a breathtaking
experience and enjoy a broad view of the
Qiantang River that runs down from the far
distance.
