Yue Fei(1103-1142 A. D. ) was a well-known general in the
Anti-Tartar War during the Southern Song Dynasty. He was
executed by a treacherous court official called Qin Gui on
the ground of an accusation of the infamy a might-be
offence '(opposing the non-resistance policy). Despite all. he
became a national hero and a symbol of patriotism. In 1212
people built a temple to remember him.
Sit at the foot of the Qixia Hill facing the West Lake, the
Yue Temple now is composed of a group of buildings
adjacent to the Yue Tomb, which is one of the national
historical importance's in Hangzhou.
Once the Travel Palace of 1h Qing Emporer, the 'West
Lake Heavenly Scenery' nestled at the foot of the Solitary Hill
is a famous site, especially for the couplet hung on the
pavilion pillars which reads, 'Shuishui shanshan chuchu
mingming xiuxiu: Qingqing yuyu shishi haohao qiqi', which
depicts characteristically the scenic features of the West
Lake.
