The number 8, bringing good fortune in China, is the first protagonist, at beginning, of the 2008 Summer Olympics: in fact the Games of the XXIX Olympiad, will be held in year 2008, month 8 (August), time at 8:08:08 pm (8 hours, 8 minutes, 8 seconds).
The Beijing National Stadium
The Opening Ceremony and Closing Ceremony will be celebrated at the Beijing National Stadium, the main track and field stadium (91,000 people, also known as the bird's nest). Some events (soccer, sailing, equestrian events ecc.) will be held in other cities of China: Qingdao, Hong Kong, Tianjin, Shanghai, Shenyang, Qinhuangdao.
Fuwa, the five Mascots of Beijing 2008
The official logo of the games, already famous in the world, is titled "Dancing Beijing": it features a stylized calligraphic character jing, the alternative name of Beijing. The mascots of Beijing 2008 are the five Fuwa, each representing one color and one meaning: their names are Beibei, Jingjing, Huanhuan, Yingying and Nini. They represent the fish (prosperity), the panda (harmony between human and nature), the Olympic flame (Olympic spirit),
the Tibet antelope (world good health), the swallow (good luck). The mascots are been created to diffuse the message of friendship and peace and the message of harmony between mankind and nature.
One World, One Dream
The slogan of the Games is: One World, One Dream. This slogan resumes the three concepts of Beijing Olympic: Green Olympics, High-tech Olympics and People's Olympics. Green Olympics means the protecting of environment and the maintenance of ecological equilibrium; High-tech Olympics underscores the high level of tecnology strengthen during the preparations for the Beijing Olympics, like Broad Band, GPS technology and the mobile communications; People's Olympics reflects the Olympic spirit and the peaceful world and represents an important aim, like the expansion of the Olympic Spirit as well as the unique Chinese culture.
